Aging Skin

We often concentrate on correcting signs of aging and sun damage on the face, but neglect to correct imperfections on the neck and décolleté. In order to create symmetry in the appearance of the skin of the upper body, we need to assess what can be done to correct conditions which appear specifically on these areas.

The Neck

Often the signs of aging and sun damage present unique conditions on the neck that are not found on the face.

  • Protruding vertical bands on the front of the neck
  • Horizontal lines
  • Rough, uneven texture of the skin, sometimes called ‘turkey neck’
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Small veins

Although we often become compliant in the use of sunblock on the face, we often neglect to do the same of the neck and décolleté. This is an important starting point in the process of addressing cosmetic imperfections of these areas.

For overall treatment to diminish problems of the neck, a series of BBL®™ PhotoFacial are an excellent option for improving texture, tone and color. If there is also a presence of small veins, this procedure can diminish or completely eradicate them. ProFractional® Laser Skin Resurfacing offers a more aggressive treatment that targets fine lines, pigmented areas, loose and sagging skin, irregular skin tone and texture. Pellevé® can be added as a specific antidote to horizontal lines on the neck, smoothing and tightening the skin in this area.

BOTOX® is the treatment of choice to reduce the prominence of vertical bands on the neck by relaxing the muscles under the skin.

For more information on these treatments, please see BBL PhotoFacial and Pellevé information in the Med Spa menu of this website. A more comprehensive discussion of BOTOX® can be found in the Injectables section.

The Chest or Décolleté

Sun damage is often visible on the chest or décolleté, an area that suffers the ravages of sunlight to the same degree as the face. Areas of heavy pigmentation, broken capillaries, rough, uneven skin tone, and redness all may become noticeable with time.

The most versatile of all treatment options for areas of sun damage, BBL PhotoFacial targets numerous skin conditions at the same time. It is effective on red blemishes that originate from blood vessels, as well as brown pigment blemishes in the form of freckles, or age spots. Skin tone is enhanced, small defects are eliminated, and pores become smaller. The end result is smoother, healthier and younger-appearing skin. In the case of correction of the chest or décolleté area, successful treatment also brings into harmony the restored look of this area with that of the face.

ProFractional laser skin resurfacing may also be recommended as the treatment of choice for the décolleté area. Additionally, the Ultherapy® technology was approved by the FDA for the treatment of the décolleté in order to tighten looseness of the skin which results in wrinkling in this area.

For more information on treatment of non-facial aging skin, please refer to ProFractional® laser skin resurfacing and BBL PhotoFacial in the Med Spa menu of this website.
