Dermal Fillers in Chico, CA

What causes our faces to age? For decades, dermatologists and plastic surgeons believed that the loss of skin elasticity was the main culprit. Now we know that loss of volume below the skin is a major contributor to a fatigued, aged appearance. Not only does skin sag and wrinkle with age, but we lose the fat that supports our skin. Even our facial bones shrink, robbing our face of its youthful shape and contours. Dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM® at our Chico, Yuba City, and Oroville, California, med spa locations restore that volume in a way that looks natural.

What Happens When Faces Lose Volume?

Skin appears smooth when fat is distributed evenly below the skin. Volume is what creates defined cheekbones, full lips, and a sculpted jawline—features that are universally considered both attractive and youthful. When our faces lose volume, the inverted triangular shape and structure that is the hallmark of a younger appearance is compromised as the skin begins sagging.

Changes that occur because of lost volume include:

  • Fullness and laxity in the lower face (jowls)
  • Sagging skin resulting in less defined facial contours
  • Flatter cheeks
  • Downturned corners of the mouth
  • Hollowness of under-eye area and temples

These changes not only age your appearance, but they can also make you appear tired, sad, or angry, even when you’re content and rested.

What Can Fillers Treat?

The versatility of fillers is one of the reasons they have emerged, along with BOTOX® injections, as the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world. Dermal fillers are used to enhance contours, plump lips, smooth wrinkles, and minimize folds, including:

  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Lip or smoker’s lines
  • Lost volume in the cheeks, lips, temples, and elsewhere
  • Hollowed tear troughs under the eyes

The results are seen almost immediately after the treatment sessions.

Dermal Filler Options

It used to be that a single filler was a workhorse and used in multiple areas of the face. That’s no longer true. Over the past 10 to 15 years, a range of specialized formulations has become available. That gives our injectors the ability to customize treatments based on each patient’s specific needs.

The most common fillers, such as the JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® product lines, are made with hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that occurs naturally in the body. It is biocompatible and reversible.

Filler options available at Rejuvené include:

JUVÉDERM

Besides JUVÉDERM XC, which smooths smile lines and nasolabial folds, the JUVÉDERM family includes several specialized fillers. These include:

JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC: Gives lips a fuller appearance and smooths vertical lip lines. Results last up to a year.

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC: Injected deeper than other JUVÉDERM fillers to contour and lift the cheeks. Results last up to 2 years.

JUVÉDERM VOLLURE® XC: Softens the nasolabial folds that extend from the nose to the sides of the mouth. Results last up to 18 months.

Restylane

Restylane® Silk: Designed specifically for lip contouring and smoothing wrinkles around the mouth. Results last about 6 months.

Restylane® Refyne & Defyne: Both of these fillers use a unique formulation to ensure the treatment areas—nasolabial folds and lines around the mouth—look and move naturally after the injections. Both last up to 12 months.

Restylane® Lyft: A versatile filler that we use to treat moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. It adds volume to the cheeks, erases smile lines around the mouth, and fills in sunken or hollow temples.

Restylane® Kysse: A filler just for lip injections that, like other Restylane products, is designed to ensure the lips and mouth move naturally. Results last up to 1 year.

Sculptra® Aesthetic

Unlike hyaluronic acid-based JUVÉDERM and Restylane fillers, Sculptra is composed of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible material that the body naturally absorbs with virtually no risk of allergy. Sculptra is injected deeper into the skin and stimulates the production of new collagen, an essential protein for improving the skin’s strength and elasticity. When used in the cheeks, Sculptra helps restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin to diminish facial wrinkles. Results build over several months, and can last 2 years or more.

Radiesse®

This filler also stimulates the production of new collagen. Radiesse uses calcium-based microspheres to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and folds in the face and hands. Results are immediate and sustained and can last up to 2 years.

What’s the Best Dermal Filler for Lip Injections?

Lip fillers in Chico, Yuba City, and Oroville are some of the most popular nonsurgical treatments with people in their 20s and up. There isn’t a single “best filler” for the lips; instead, the choice for you depends on your needs and cosmetic goals. JUVÉDERM Ultra has a variety of uses, including lip enhancement. Some fillers are made specifically for the lips, including:

  • JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA is made for lip augmentation and smoothing away vertical lip lines around the mouth.
  • Restylane Kysse increases fullness and definition while allowing the lips to move naturally when speaking and making expressions. It also enhances lip color.
  • Restylane Silk provides subtle, natural-looking enhancement and corrects lip lines.

During your consultation, your injector will examine your concerns and recommend the filler or combination of fillers for you.

What’s a Liquid Facelift?

Because dermal fillers and BOTOX provide complementary benefits, we can combine these injections. Called a liquid facelift, this combination provides more extensive facial rejuvenation than either option can offer on its own. People with mild to moderate aging of the face who want an alternative to surgery often choose the liquid facelift to look younger without downtime or a significant expense.

What To Expect During Your Filler Appointment

Dermal filler treatments begin with a consultation to make sure you’re a good candidate and to create a personalized treatment plan. The quick and easy treatments are performed with a fine needle to minimize discomfort. Our fillers are formulated with numbing medication (lidocaine), so expect little, if any, discomfort. Once your treatment is complete, you will receive post-treatment care instructions. Results are instant, so you can return to your regular daily activities with your new enhanced look.

What To Avoid After Dermal Fillers

While downtime is not needed after filler injections, the following precautions can help you attain optimal results:

  • Do not lie down for about 3 to 4 hours.
  • Do not rub or put pressure where the filler was injected until the next day.
  • Stay out of direct sunlight, saunas, hot tubs, and other sources of extreme heat for the first day.
  • Keep irritating substances like retinol and glycolic acid away from treated areas for about 48 hours.
  • Hold off on alcohol, blood thinning medications (such as aspirin), and strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Wait at least 2 weeks to have a facial or chemical peel.

Dermal Filler FAQs

How much do fillers cost?

The cost of filler injections depends on the type of filler used, the treatment area, the goals of the patient, and other factors. Even though virtually all patients consider cost, we recommend that you choose highly trained and qualified injectors. Injections performed by less skilled providers can lead to disappointing results or complications.

What’s the difference between fillers and BOTOX®?

BOTOX and other muscle-relaxing injections address dynamic wrinkles caused by squinting, smiling, frowning, or looking surprised. The results typically last about 4 months. Fillers replenish lost volume and last longer. We often combine fillers with BOTOX to produce better overall results.

How long do dermal fillers last?

In general, dermal filler results last from 6 months to 2 years, depending on the choice of filler and where it is injected. Results typically last longer in less mobile areas of the face, such as the cheeks.

What if I don’t like my results? Can fillers be dissolved?

If you are unhappy with your HA filler results and don’t want to wait for them to dissipate on their own, we can use hyaluronidase injections to dissolve the filler within a few days.

Are there any side effects I should be aware of?

Side effects from filler injections, such as redness, swelling, bruising, or sensitivity at the injection sites, are typically mild and temporary.
